How do I use my CD material in CAN8?
Updated 2/29/04 to Reflect CDex Version 1.51
The great thing about CD material, is it is already in a digital format. All we need to do is convert it into a format that CAN-8 can import.
To start off, we need to “rip the CD”. Now, this may sound rather agressive, but it is really a simple procedure. We recommend the CDex ripping tool. It is freeware, easy to install, and easy to operate.
Install the CDex program, carefully following the installation process, and remembering where the application has been installed to. After the installation process is complete, insert the CD you wish to rip into your CD drive.
1. Launch the CDex application.
2. Select the Tracks you wish to rip.

3. Press the WAV button on the right hand tool bar.

4. Wait for CDex to convert the digital audio track to a wave file. Depending on the length of the track, this could take 2-3 minutes. Also keep in mind, that standard CDs can hold up to 640 megabytes of data. Be sure to have enough free space to hold the tracks you are ripping.

5. Log into CAN-8 as either the Master or an instructor.
6. Open the plan you want to use the CD material in.
7. When your recorder opens, choose file, import, sound.

8. Browse to the location of your newly ripped wav files, select the one you want, Click OK and CAN-8 will now import the CD track into CAN-8. CDex stores its files in “c:\program file\scdex151\outputfiles”. In the setup options in CDex, you can change the default save location from the “Filenames” tab.

9. Save the plan. You have just created a listening exercise!
