How do I move my CAN-8 Installation to a new server?
Servers age and need to be replaced periodically. Because the CAN8 system resides in its own directory, relocation is a simple operation.
1. You will need to stop the daemon by closing the NTSERVE application on the original system.
2. Copy the \svsys directory to the new system.
3. Move the serial security device to the new system.
4. Restart the NTSERVE program.
5. If you are changing IPs, be sure to update the [server] section of the sv.ini file on the student workstations. It can be found in the %WIN% directory. This could be \windows or \winnt depending on the operating system.
6. Log into CAN8 to ensure that the security key has been seen by the daemon and that the daemon is allowing access.
Now that the system has been transferred, you can consider having the daemon start as a service or have the daemon launch from the system startup folder.
