PROBLEM: My new server doesn’t see the Serial Security Device

The RS232 standard lists the voltage of a serial port to be 12 volts in magnitude. As the CAN-8 security devices adhere strictly to this specification, systems that only provide 5 or 10 volts will have problems with the devices. The IBM line of NetFinity servers and some new Dells provide voltage in magnitudes ranging from 5 volts up to 10 volts. This inconsistent voltage prevents the system from properly communicating with the security devices. In addition to the communication problems, this inconsistent power can cause damage to your CAN-8 license device.

Sounds Virtual recommends the use of the DSB-S25 USB to Serial adapter from Dlink. The adapters cost about $39 + shipping.
Update: Sounds Virtual has made some changes to its devices to accommodate the sub standard serial ports on these new servers. Contact LoboSoft for a replacement device.
